I can't take it.  Livejournal drives me bananas.  It's been a good decade, LJ, but I bid you adieu.

You can follow my NaNoWriMo progress here.

Best of luck to all those attempting!

Sooo the project.

I'm going to be transferring my TS2 stories (you know the ones) to actual, written form.  A lot is going to change in the transition and not every character is coming along for the ride.  There's a ton of stuff I've gone back and red penned the hell out of, especially in KiD (/cringes), but it's going to be fun and huge and exciting.

I'll talk about it a bit here, but those posts will probably be friend's only.  So, if you're not someone who is usually logged in, you won't be able to see them unless you do!

The husband is my quasi-editor for this and he's already taken to it like a fish to water.  He's forcing me to plan, plot, and even diagram out an entire city... because that's what he does and that's why he's wonderful to have around.  I'm chaos, he's order--it all works out in the end.

So, yes.  Fun times.

Pictures of Loki that I took outside right before sunset.  He's VERY orange, so it causes a lot of orange in the pictures.  To me, it looks off... but what can you do?

As usual, click to see the bigger size.  I don't use the actual res because it's HUGE and that would be ridiculous.  I was hoping for a lens for my anniversary present... but I may have spent too much on the husband for that to be feasible.  I'm pretty shaky, so I need an IS lens and those... are pricey.  Sigh.

I got him a watch from my workplace originally priced around $400-500 for less than $150.  Why?  Because I am awesome and work very hard and get very, very good discounts.  Let's just stick with that.  He picked it out.  Protip for the ladies--a watch is an intimate thing for a man.  Let him choose it.

Back to the pictures... the most annoying thing about my camera is its extreme sensitivity to light.  I don't have the most expensive model, but I don't have the cheapest, either.  It seems to be a common issue.  I adjust as necessary, but it always seems to be too much or too little.  I'm just glad I am somewhat seasoned with Photoshop so that I can fix it... in most cases.  I also like brighter pictures, so it works out... kind of.  Slowly, I will improve... but I need a LOT more outside practice.  I barely leave the apartment, so I really need to work on that, ha.

On the creative front, I've been kicking around an idea for about a year now.  I finally told the husband about it last night.  I'm one of those people that can't talk about something until I'm ready to commit to it.  Even now, I'm balking at the pressure.  It's a huge undertaking and a lot of work.  It would probably take years.  I'll say more about it when I can handle the stress of telling other people about it.  The husband is on board, though, so that's good.

All in good time, I guess.

Also, why the hell is this stupid song stuck in my head?  Go away, random song from the '90s.

So, the husband got me to play Diablo III.  If you don't know what that is, google it.  I don't know how you couldn't by now, given all the crazy hype surrounding it.  People have been waiting for this game for over a decade; that's pretty intense!

I had always intended to order him the Collector's Edition.  He was surprised when I did so, though, given the price.  I knew it was important to him.  I even surprised him further by purchasing a standard edition myself.  I think that made him happier than anything.  He's tried to get me to play the older ones to no avail.

So, we've been playing it and despite the errors, it's a lot of fun.  We have a bunch of friends playing, too, so that makes it all the more fun.  We beat the Normal difficulty last night and now we get to go through the harder difficulties.  The ending was a disappointment, but I guess they're setting up for an expansion?

I'm playing a Wizard.  She is amazing.  I love it!

I'm not really good at all this web-socializing craziness, but I decided that I like randomly posting video game crap, so I'm going to use tumblr for most of that.  You can find it at tehmao.tumblr.com.  I like to take videos, so expect a lot of those.  Most of my random gaming crap will probably end up there, too.  I dunno yet.  We'll see how I feel about it.

So, after three years, I finished what I started in my 2009 NaNoWriMo.  That's messed up.  I haven't really written anything since then (not counting sims stuff.)  I'm really out of practice.  It took me a over a year to rewrite a few chapters and then clean up the end... which hasn't exactly happened yet.  I'll need to sit and stew on it before I'm happy with it.

I still have to go back, and at some point, completely rewrite and fix the rest of it.  Of all my NaNo's drafts, I'm happiest with this one.  It wasn't as much as a scramble rush as the others.  Finished, it sits at thirty chapters with 73,449 words.  That will change once I clean up the other parts, though.  It'll probably end up being longer.  x_x

I'm not one of those people who has dreams of being a professional author.  I admire those with that drive, but it's just not me.  I used to write in an effort to 'save' myself.  It was my form of expression and it helped me understand and get through some things that happened to me when I was younger.  It was therapy.  It still is.  I am not under any mistaken impression that my words are some sort of amazing, literary marvel.  I also have varying styles, depending on what I'm writing, and I don't think I could ever lock down just one!  I don't have the drive or the discipline to be a professional!

For instance, I keep typing "profressional."  Why?  I do not know.  This is my life, folks.

Anyway, it's fun for me (most of the time) and as long as that rings true, I'll do it.  It stopped being "fun" and that's why I stopped writing for awhile.  Such is life!

I am pretty sure I will be attempting NaNoWriMo this year... provided I have time.  I work a job where the holidays are the busiest time of year!  So, we'll see.  I've love to do it, though.  I want to rewrite this one draft I'd started years ago.  It needs a lot of love and I have to change some things because I have this uncanny need to take my beloved characters, alter their personalities only slightly, and then throw them into a different story, lol.  Unfortunately, it has no end and a shoddy structure to fall back on.

Sounds like a job for a NaNo attempt!  Ha.

We've been playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning  a lot lately.  We're playing it on Xbox, so no pretty pictures.  It's actually a lot longer than we thought.  The husband is about 50 hours in and has yet to complete the game!  That's pretty impressive.

He originally 'acquired' it on PC and it looked pretty, but it's more like the Fable series in that the camera is weird and it doesn't play like Skyrim (or games like it), so it's more suited to console ( at least, for us.)  It doesn't look as pretty on Xbox, but we get achievements, so it evens out.

I kind of stopped playing Skyrim back in January simply because my brain went elsewhere and I didn't have the time.  I have time now, but my brain is somewhere else.  Skyrim is all-consuming and deeply involved... and my brain just can't center into that right now.  So, I've been playing TS3 and working on my prosperity style hood.  I will eventually get back to Skyrim... I only made it through 50% of the damn game!  I'm just so ADD right now that I can't focus... sigh.

I am going home for a week this Saturday, so excited!  I can't wait.  It's only been a few months since I've been home, but that was over Thanksgiving and we had to work Black Friday... so we were only there for three days.  It will be nice to have a full week to spend with my family!

The husband keeps talking about getting a snowball mic and a gameplay recorder... I think he's gone mad.  He wants us to do video game commentary, which we certainly could do... we make a good comedy pair.  The bad part is, you'd have to bleep out 60-80% of everything I said!  I am not kid friendly when I game.  We'll see what happens...

I haven't had the chance to play Skyrim in the past two weeks, but I'm definitely hoping to get some time soon.  In the meantime, though, I've been going through my screenshots.

Skyrim is actually a really pretty game... if you choke-hold it into submission and mercilessly edit its .ini file to suit your needs.  I have everything cranked up and just about every setting changed or cranked up through external files that I can possibly manage.

Remember, you can click on the images to make them bigger.

pictures under the cutCollapse )

I have some other pictures, but I don't want to bog down the entry... I also have to go and make dinner.  :b  Also, for those curious, the bigger versions are not in the resolution I play the game.  I play it at max resolution and those pictures are huge.  Thankfully, Steam stores them for me... but I downsize them for upload because I don't like uploading ridiculously huge things.

Hopefully I'll have some more interesting gameplay posts... been working a lot lately and busy with other things.  :(

A break from the video games for cat nonsense.

Our cat, Loki, loves paper shopping bags.  We bring them home and then we can't throw them away until he's had his run of them.  He is always getting stuck on the handles...

My husband decided that the best motivation is rage.  So, he started blowing on him.  Our cat has an irrational hatred for wind of any kind.  Usually, when you do it, he attacks your face.  He gave my husband a fat lip for doing this to him before!

Not sure why the quality is shit... probably because it was too dark when I started.  :(  I was hoping he would flip around and lie on his back while grabbing the bag.  He did it a few seconds before I grabbed the camera.

I love Skyrim.  I'm having a blast with it.  I refused to look at absolutely anything involving it before it's release... which was really hard.  I knew that if I did, I would be horribly disappointed.  Some things bother me, sure, but overall?  It's a good time.

Unfortunately, it seems to have the same logic fails that occur in all games.  It doesn't seem to matter what genre it is... as long as it's a videogame, there's at least one logic fail.

At least this one was hilarious!

Sooo... I've been playing Skyrim.  For those not in the know, the full name is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.  It's part of Bethesda's long series of single player role-playing games.  The noise started with Morrowind, but it's been around longer than that.  Anyway, it's awesome.  It's not quite as awesome as it once was, due to Besthesda thinking that because they made Fallout 3, they had to dumb down this game the same way (so as to appeal to the people who whine when given any sort of restriction whatsoever) and the graphics require you to do a LOT of tweaking if you're playing on PC.  For some unknown reason, Bethesda thought those of us with computers wanted to see the same shitty, limiting graphics as those on consoles... WRONG!

Sorry, I'm a little bitter about RP games on consoles.  They belong on PCs, and they don't need to be "dumbed down" to suit consoles (I enjoy a console game as much as the next, I even started out on console, but I'd sooner chew my arm off than play a game like this on it.)  It only limits what you can do when you try to make a beast like this run on consoles.

ANYWAY... I will probably be putting some stuff up here on Skyrim.  I have been playing it awhile now and I am enjoying it quite a bit.  There are some humorous bugs.  In fact, this is why I am writing this post... because one of them happened today while I was playing.  I was innocently assassinating someone in Ivarstead (as per my agreement with the Dark Brotherhood) when I saw the townfolk mutiny on a poor, unsuspecting guard.

I have no idea how or why, but the only thing I can guess is that this poor guard somehow saw me commit murder.  I didn't get a bounty, and I got no notice of this, but no sooner was it that the poor sod was face down in the water that I heard the crazy sounds of people attacking from across the stream.  Even my companion, Stenvar, was sending Ebony Arrows into the fray with little hesitation.

Well, I guess the guard forgot that I'm the motherfucking Dovahkiin, and the people of Ivarstead just don't take kindly with the (glitchy) law getting all up in my dragonborn grill.  He even tried to yield and they were all, "oh hell no!  you goin' down NORD STYLE, bitch!"

So hilarious.  They killed him and a female guard came waltzing around the corner, ready to take his place.  She didn't seem to notice the crumpled up corpse only partially hidden by the rocks and fauna... I'm sure it was for the best.  Anyone who tried to arrest these people would have to be crazy.
